Welcome to Joanna Viva Tarot! I hope you enjoy learning the tarot with me as I share my knowledge and updates on all things “magic of the cards.”

The journey to my interest in learning about the tarot is a long one and can be stemmed from my late aunt. She was a magical soul who taught me about crystals and goddesses and spiritual symbolism from a young age. She also collected tarot decks and stones and saw the magic in me, even on days when I didn’t feel especially magical. She loved me, and so when she passed, I began to take her guidance and teaching more seriously and started collecting and learning about gemstones, reading cards and understanding the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck, and channeling the otherworldly connections I have to the spirit realm in a more serious and openminded fashion.

The story goes that my aunt taught me one of my first crystal words, “malachite,” when I was two. I love the green stone, and learning about what crystals mean, how they can help heal and provide energy, and other beautiful secrets of the esoteric and metaphysical world.

With the tarot cards, I started with the original Rider-Waite-Smith classic deck to gain an understanding. Pamela Coleman Smith’s illustrations hold a depth of endless meaning. The spreads I first learned about were the three card Past, Present, Future and the Celtic Cross ten card spread. The cards give guidance; they don’t predict the future, but rather they are meant to open the mind to the possibilities beyond our inner wisdom — although sometimes this is exactly what we need to tap in to when we have been ignoring ourselves.

I read for myself to gain insight and introspection on what’s ahead and what has happened in my past. I also like to read for my family and sometimes friends and others. As I embark on the more studious journey of learning and going deeper into the knowledge of the tarot, I will continue to provide updates and writing on my fun findings, opinionated thoughts and nitty gritty facts of what makes the tarot so fantastic.

I have a workshop and tarot reader certification class coming up next week at one of my favorite metaphysical shops that I am majorly looking forward to! More to come on that soon.
